You guys are truly awesome.
OK, I was going to leave this alone but after reading the feedbacks from my FB page via wife’s access (yeah, good thing I made her Admin), and getting quite a few emails over this, I just had to write something here. First of all, I really do appreciate everyone’s support over my FB account being disabled. And I was really touched by a lot of the comments there as well. And some of your recommendations … Hahaha .. you guys should really consider writing scripts for Hollywood. Anyways, I have already submitted my appeal so the only thing I can do now is wait. If they agree to enable my account again, that would be great. If not, it’s no biggie since I don’t really need FB for my hobby’s interest, though I agree it would make things easier. And unlike the loss of my first account which I probably deserved, I’m not angry or hurt over it, just dumbfounded at how FB could regard me as a fictitious person despite having so many personal links to my profile page (mobile, instagram and tweeter all with the same name). It’s also good to know my account wasn’t disabled due to any aggressive behavior or me caught breastfeeding a baby.
I like to believe all this usually happens for a reason and I was forced to consider my options and weight in on what to do next. Creating a new blog was naturally under my list of things to do later, which has now been brought forward under the current circumstances. At least I can focus full time on her.
It also allowed me the opportunity to look back at when I first created my first blog “Bruce Scale Modeling Domain” and the reason why I did it. And in all honesty, I never expected her to grow so big so fast. Before I knew it, I was connecting with people from all over the world, sharing knowledge and friendship with no boundaries whatsoever. I got to know people in a more intimate way as compared to the time spent at FB where I had the quantity but lacking the quality (of really knowing anyone). I also didn’t realize what a gold mine my old blog was until middle of last year when I discovered I had over 1,200,000 page views and 76 followers. I like to think that everyone that had visited my pages there did enjoy their tenure and found a lot of my post helpful. It also got me wondering why my old blog was so successful, and realized it’s due to the quality of the contents. Despite FB having plenty of information and images, most of them were cold, isolated and they don’t last long there. You can’t refer back to information posted months ago as they can go missing when they get buried over layers of new contents coming in, and unless your images are posted up into your time line or photo albums, they too can disappear. Don’t get me wrong, FB has some of the best images out there, and the speed to convey them. But they do lack in quality contents. If you happen to be reading this and depend on FB for your trade and commerce, beware. What happened to me could happen to you. Back up your business foundation with at least a blog, or a website.
In fact, after creating and posting at my new blog (for a few days now), I am actually rediscovering a lot of things I am missing, particularly writing, and another trait that set me apart from the rest – doing research , or using my uncanny ability to find things very few could. Yeah, I used to troll the net hungry for more pictures, information, links, contacts, etc etc. With FB, I got lazy as all I had to do was sit back and click “share”. As a result, I got fat – literally. Hence going back to my roots, I want to re-create what I had with my old blog again. That means even if I get back my FB account, I doubt I’ll be doing much postings there anymore. I’ll still use it now and then but I’m going to put my money into this blog.
Hopefully with time, I can grow and establish my foundation again. My goals remain the same, and that is to get more people to go into the scale modeling hobby, help support model kit manufacturers (so all of us can enjoy new offerings) and to establish a modeling circle where skill sets and techniques can be shared.
…. And yes, I am still 70% Sci-Fi and 30% the rest in terms of my interest. I hope you do enjoy your tenure at my new place. Do let me know if any of the materials are offensive to you as it is not my intention to offend.
